When I am here, I am there. When I am there, I am here. 01-09-2012

When I am here, I am there. When I am there, I am here.

My work is about the phenomenon of disconnection between physical and mental presence. In a sixteen-minute video, I explore the theme of harmful disconnection using the tourist as my main characters and inspiration. Disconnection is particularly paradoxical in the context of tourism: often, the tourist travels all the way to a remote location, only to remain mentally or spiritually connected to some other place or situation, thus missing the opportunity of living the present experience. In my video, I present a subtly critical (and humorous) view of this paradox.
